Busy Weekend

We had a very busy, but fun weekend.  Saturday we went to the air show at McConnell Air Force Base.  Logan just can't get enough of airplanes and Amanda was a good sport.  : )

They got to crawl into the hatch where the boom operators refuel smaller aircraft in mid-flight.

Then they got to sit in the pilots seat and get a who's what lesson on all the buttons.

I guess he though it was a fighter plane : ).
The army also had some helicopters there... the kids loved it!

The F-18 demonstration was AWESOME and LOUD!!!

Then the Golden Knights jumped out of perfectly good airplanes!  This jump was this fellows 821st jump!  What a rush that must be!

Then we got to see the Thunderbirds !!!!  And that's when my camera said NO MORE (my battery died).  I guess 79 photos was enough for the day, anyway.  I would have been hard to get good photos if I had battery left... they were moving very fast!

Then Sunday we got to see The Lion King!!!!  It was wonderful, stupendous, and magnificent!

We went out to lunch first, then did the matinee.  The kids were great and Logan got a kick out of identifying the differences between the musical and the movie.

We made some good memories this last weekend in September!

What Have We Been Up To?

Well, even though we are back into the school / work routine we still have some fun stuff going on.  However, I seem to be lacking in the "post it to the blog" department!  Here are a few things that I've been wanting to post about, but got so far behind I almost said NEVER MIND.

A few weekends ago we attended a fundraiser for childhood brain cancer.  They had many fun things for the kiddos to do including face patinting and I must say, this lady was TALENTED!!!!  Never mind that she had lots of examples to choose from on the table, Logan walked up and said:

 I want a dragon!

 A FIRE BREATHING DRAGON!

A FIRE BREATHING DRAGON THAT WRAPS AROUND MY FACE!!!!!
She had to find some inspiration on her phone, then gave it her own twist.  What talent...
This is Logan's "serious" dragon face.
Then it was Amanda's turn.  Not to be out done by her brother, she walks up and say's:
"I want a tiger over my WHOLE FACE!"
20 minutes later, this is what she looked like.
Such a shame that this wonderful artist worked so long and hard on my children's face paint just to have it washed off before bed that night.

*sigh*

I guess that's why we have cameras.

A little later into the evening, they did a balloon launch in memory of a little girl that lost her battle to cancer.  It was very touching.

Some other weekend (I honestly can't remember which one!) we harvested all our butternut squash from our garden.  What a HUGE mess and a TON of work, but I'm betting this will last us through the winter and then some.

*************************************************************************

TENNIS!!!

We enrolled the kids in tennis classes!

Amanda... well... she has a style all of her own that spills over into her tennis technique.
(Read between the lines... NOT HER THING).

Logan was very enthusiastic and had some good form and raw talent.  We may continue his lessons, but in the mean time, the whole family got tennis rackets and we'll be playing some singles for exercise in the coming months.  Fun, Fun, Fun!

*****************************************************************************

Monday my little girl got to stay home from school with her momma.  The good news is that she found the toilet in the middle of the night BEFORE she started vomiting.  This is BIG NEWS people!!!!  She's never done that before!!!!  Guess that just shows that my baby is growing up.  : )

No worries, that was the only sickness she had and she was feeling fit as a fiddle the next morning. She still got to soak up some pampering and loved every minute.  (Logan is a bit jealous).

Okay!  Now you're up to date for at least a day!!!

Playin' In The Rain

Sometimes, you just have to go out and play in the rain...

Our Lazy Saturday

This is how we spent what SHOULD have been a lazy Saturday.  I tell you.  Sometimes that man gets a fire lit under him and there is no stopping him!

I noticed this poor tree last week while mowing and told Eric about the rot and how the tree was starting to split.  That man doesn't mess around when it comes to trees potentially falling on his children's heads.  The good news is that it only took us 6 hours total to cut the tree into logs and move it  to our growing wood pile.  The bad news is that neither one of us will be able to move tomorrow!  : 0

Oh, and sorry about the bad language in the video.  It kind of slipped out in the moment.  : )

Fun with Cousins

This holiday weekend we had two extra children to join in our fun.  Logan and Amanda's cousins came to visit us and we showed them some of our town.

Saturday Logan had a scout event at the Exploration Place.  They got to do some fun stuff like spray water from a water hose!
They discovered the joys of a marshmallow shooter...

 ... walked on stilts...
... and tried to tie knots in a rope one handed.
We all got to sit inside a fire truck...
... but my favorite part was the ambulance.  I've never seen the inside of an ambulance before (and hope to never see one "in action"), but this was very interesting!
All the kids got to get strapped onto the gurney and take a little tour.
A fella in our pack was able to pull some strings and get us a behind the scenes tour of The Keeper of the Plains.  What's special about this statue is the five giant plumes of fire that are lit each night.  We got to check out the control panel and all the workings to make this thing go... we need to make it back up there at night to see it lit up, but we didn't find the time this visit.

After our outdoor tour, we headed into the Exploration Place for the rest of the afternoon.  The older kids and Eric went to see the Star Wars exhibit while I watched the younger monkeys play.

Sunday we took the cousins geocaching!  We found 4 before the ticks and the heat got the best of us.

Some were easy to spot... others a little more difficult.  Eric and I are still perfecting our strategy for locating these little treasures but it really helps when they are so obvious!  : )
Here is another one at the base of the tree... Logan was saying "don't do bunny ears" to Amanda.  : )  He really had fun.  I promise.
The last one of the day was hidden in a fallen tree.  By this point, the little girls were D. O. N. E. but I think our older two could have kept going.  They were really into the hunt.  In fact, they wouldn't let me show them were I found this.  They wanted to find it on their own!
