Some of you may already know, but if not... Logan's cancer has come back. He has had a couple of episodes of fatigue and I was concerned and took him in for a checkup with his cancer doctor. His blood work looked okay, but just to be sure they sent out his blood for a chimerism test (genetic test). That came back a few days later that he is only 99% donor. For the last 2 plus years he has been 100% donor meaning that all the blood in his body has come from his new donor bone marrow so they were concerned that it is now showing only 99%. It could have been a glitch or a false read but they wanted to do a double check. The only way to know for sure is to do a bone marrow aspiration where they draw blood directly from his bone marrow and send it out to lab for testing. We were shocked when the results came back 30% luekemic. All this drama happened right before Logan was scheduled to leave for Camp Quality, a summer camp for children currently undergoing treatment or survivors of cancer. His doctors felt like we caught this relapse early enough that they could delay treatment until after camp... SO... here are some photos of Logan at camp this week. A little biter sweet but precious non the less.
Marshmallow shooter wars..
Learning to tie knots...
Arial Yoga
Using a pulley system to pull a truck
Making new friends...
We pick him up tomorrow morning and get to enjoy the weekend at home as a family. Next week, the chemo begins.
:-( I just heard the news...I'm so sorry! You know, despite everything, I just can't get over how brave, strong and inspiring Logan is to all of us. Seeing him in these pictures brought tears to my eyes! He's a fighter and we will be keeping you all in our prayers as you go through this next round of chemo. I am so happy Logan was able to go to camp! That is just what he needed before starting the next battle. We are with you fighting behind the scenes...sending our hugs your way!
ReplyDeletePS - Your mommy intuition told you to take him in ... we always need to follow what we are thinking or feeling. You rock, Diane - you are an awesome mom!!!
