The monkey house has discovered a new hobby... geocaching! For those of you not familiar with it, you go to the geocaching website to get gps coordinates for hidden boxes called geocaches. Some are tiny micro caches that only contain a scroll to sign, others are large enough to contain "treasures!" You sign the log and put it back where you found it for the next person to find.
Today, we found one micro and 2 larger containers at one of our favorite parks and let me tell you, the kids are HOOKED!!! The gps coordinates get you close, then you have to use your detective skills to locate them from there. Some are very cleverly hidden, like the micro one we found hidden behind a dummy bolt in a post. Others are pretty obvious if you get close enough and know where to look.
One of the caches we found today had some treasures the kids traded for. If you take something from a cache, you have to replace it with something else. Logan found a set of brand new golf balls in one and Amanda found a small stuffed seahorse. : )
By far the best part of our adventure is that we discovered a new way to enjoy one of our favorite parks and had a fabulous day out in nature. ~Heaven ~
I have a co-worker that's been doing this for years and I wonder why I never thought to mention it to you. It's the PERFECT thing for you and the kids and I can just feel the excitement the hunt generates! Thanks for sharing the details.
